October 17 OnlyAll Afternoon
Bonfire And S’mores
The bonfire runs all afternoon, and s’mores are the point. Pull up a spot, roast a marshmallow, and warm up between laps around the farm.
Mid October in Northern Michigan is when the air finally turns, which is exactly why this one works. The woods are past peak but still holding color, the crowds are thinner than the first weeks of the season, and a fire outdoors actually feels like something.
It is the last Saturday before Pumpkin Fest, so if you want a quieter visit with the whole farm to yourselves, this is the one.

Getting To The Farm
6500 Nicklaus Drive
Gaylord, MI 49735
About twenty minutes west of downtown Gaylord in Otsego County, and an easy drive from Petoskey, Traverse City, Boyne City, Grayling and Alpena. Parking is on site and free. Driving directions from twelve nearby towns.
If your GPS still calls this the Wilderness Valley Golf Course, you are in the right place. The course closed years ago and the property is the farm now.
Mid October can be cold up here. Dress in layers, wear closed shoes, and the bonfire will handle the rest.
Questions
Flannel & Bonfires Questions
Do I have to wear flannel?
No, but wearing one gets you a coin for a future farm visit. Any flannel counts, and plenty of families make a day of all matching.
What is the coin for?
It is good toward a future visit to the farm. Show up in flannel on October 17 and you get one.
Is the bonfire going all day?
The bonfire runs through the afternoon, so there is no set time to show up for it. Gates open at 10am and close at 5pm.
How much is admission?
Adults 14 to 59 are $15. Children 3 to 13 and seniors 60 and up are $10. Children 2 and under are free. Flannel & Bonfires is included with that admission, with no separate event ticket. Tickets are available online or at the gate.
What should we wear?
Flannel, obviously. Beyond that, mid October in Northern Michigan can be cold, so dress in layers and wear closed shoes. Most of the farm is outdoors and the ground is uneven in places.
What else is open that day?
The whole farm. The reindeer, Tibetan yaks, Texas Longhorns, micro donkeys and peacocks, plus hay wagon rides, the barrel train, the pedal kart track, the playgrounds and the tractor tire park. The Farm Haus and the Waffle Barn are open for food.
What else is happening in October?
Pumpkin Fest on October 24 and Halloween On The Farm on October 31, which is the last Saturday of the fall season. See all thirteen 2026 event dates.
